Why 1:1 tutoring is normally unaffordable — and what we're doing about it

One-to-one tutoring is, by a wide margin, one of the most effective ways to learn something difficult. It's also priced like it: by the hour, scheduled around one person's calendar, usually somewhere between the cost of a nice dinner and a month of streaming subscriptions — per session.

That pricing isn't arbitrary. A tutor is trading their limited hours directly for your understanding. There's no way to make that cheaper without making the tutor worse or the hours shorter.

An AI tutor doesn't have that constraint. It doesn't get tired at 9pm, it doesn't need a scheduling gap between students, and it can hold a detailed model of exactly where you are in a specific syllabus without needing to be re-briefed every session. We're not there by pretending an AI tutor is identical to a great human one — it isn't, yet. We're there by taking the one thing a good tutor does that most AI tools skip — insisting you prove you've understood something before moving on — and building the whole product around it.
